Check the surface and conditions
Apply cut vinyl only to a surface compatible with the product instructions. The area should be smooth, clean, dry, and free from wax, oil, dust, and residue. Avoid installation on a hot panel in direct sun or in temperatures outside the vinyl manufacturer’s stated range.
Clean without leaving residue
Wash away visible dirt first. Finish with the cleaner recommended for the surface and vinyl, using a clean lint-free cloth. Allow all moisture and cleaner to evaporate. Recently painted or coated surfaces may require a curing period before vinyl is applied; follow the coating manufacturer’s guidance.
Position before peeling
With the backing still attached, place the decal and mark alignment with low-tack painter’s tape. Measure from fixed reference points instead of judging alignment from a body line that may taper. For a larger graphic, use a tape hinge to keep the position stable.
Apply with steady pressure
Peel the backing away gradually while keeping the adhesive from touching the surface prematurely. Burnish across the transfer tape with overlapping strokes, working in a controlled direction rather than pressing random areas. Follow the product’s dry- or wet-application instructions; do not assume the methods are interchangeable.
Remove the transfer tape slowly
Pull the transfer tape back against itself at a low angle. If part of the design lifts, lay the tape back down and burnish that area again. Once the carrier is removed, press the vinyl edges with a clean applicator and allow the adhesive to set before washing or exposing it to demanding conditions, according to the material instructions.
